Friend or Foe ? - 5 minutes, Dark Comedy (2000) (originally the fourth chapter in the Back Office series.)

LOGLINE: In this episode of Back Office, two friends on a commuter flight share their memories of a trip to Prague.

Are they friends or foes? Sometimes it's hard to tell. Rick's a cynic. He doesn't like airplane food, commuter flights, or returning to the States after a trip to Prague. Dave is an optimist. He's happy, content, and in love with a Prague beauty, Lena.

But his bliss is shattered when Rick drops a bombshell concerning lovely Lena and a certain evening in his hotel room. A humorous look at two disparate attitudes toward sex: the sensitive Dave, who buys flowers, takes long walks, and gets moon-eyed; and the voraciously sex- hungry Rick, who treats people like crap and still gets it as much as "k.d. lang at the Lilith Fair." Do nice guys really finish last?

Starring George Caleodis & Joe Teeters before they moved on to the Second City and leaving me behind. FRIEND OR FOE was shot as a part of the Back Office series, but has since remained one of the most popular SONNYBOO movies and consistantly brings viewers. The ending was changed to reflect the original script, pre-Back Office and was re-edited entirely from the DV masters by Bret Dahlgren in Jan 2004 to be a part of the short film series TALES OF DEMISE.

Shot with a Canon GL1, and edited with Adobe Premiere 5.1C, we shot at the Marysville Airport in a stationairy plane on the runway on a rainy day. Sound effects, and creative camera work help sell the "plane in flight".

Back Office
The Back Office series was the first short movie venture from SONNYBOO PRODUCTIONS, and began lifelong friendships & working relationships. Often very rough & not so good in the writing/directing, the art of making movies was learned on these shoots. Watching Back Office shorts are a journey into the evolution of an apsiring filmmaker.
